Recently, Low & Bonar, a manufacturer of high-performance materials, collaborated with Dutch designer Joris de Groot to design shoes using technology and materials from the automotive industry.

Joris de Groot is a designer who starts his design from the factory. He is inspired by various production processes. His works are often based on the technology and materials of the factory workshop. The in-depth research is impressive.

 In4nite II product

Before introducing this upper, let’s first briefly introduce Low & Bonar’s In4nite II Project, In4nite II is a design platform that combines three design thinkings: product design, graphic design, and architectural design, and makes full use of Low & Bonar’s technical expertise to create a variety of designs and products.

 Colback® Fabric

The design of these products mainly usesColback®Fabric,Colback® is a general name for high-performance fabrics developed by Low & Bonar and used for carpets, floors, car interiors and decorations. The fabric is made of bi-component filaments processed by non-woven technology.

This upper material was developed by De Groot for Low & Bonar’s In4nite II project. Groot carefully studied the various technologies used in the automotive interior manufacturing process and then adapted these technologies to form the upper material. Before use, Colback? is tested for quality to minimize the risk of internal Irregularities. At the same time, linear pattern tufted fabrics are used, so that the morphological changes of the material during the forming process can be monitored. After forming, these linear patterns form irregular detailed patterns due to inconsistent deformation, which in turn creates the upper. Irregular design beauty

De Groot said, “From the tufting and molding of body and carpet materials to the smoothing of edges when car seat cushions are finished, various technologies involved in automotive interior manufacturing are brought together in this series of upper materials. .”
