Scientists from MIT recently invented a new waterproof material. During the material development process, they also drew on the waterproof principles of butterfly wings and lotus leaves.
It is reported that this waterproof material draws on the waterproofing mechanism of lotus leaves and butterfly wings. Its surface has prism-shaped protrusions with a height of only 0.1mm, which can divide large water droplets into smaller-sized water droplets and then bounce away from the surface, thereby achieving waterproofing purpose.
According to Kripa Varanasi, a press researcher at MIT, this new waterproof material can reduce the interaction time between water droplets and the material surface by 37% compared to currently used waterproof materials, thereby achieving better waterproofing effects.
Although this is just a new technology and has not yet entered the specific application stage, imagine if the body of future smartphones can be covered with such a layer of waterproof material, then we may no longer have to worry about the phone being exposed to rain. Maybe he got wet or fell into the pool.
